The visualization of the avatar employs the ray marching technique to create a synthetic image. Following this principle, the joints and bones of the avatar are represented as signed distance functions. All distance functions combined generate a smooth surface that is illuminated through ambient occlusion. By varying the type and properties of the distance function and the level of smoothing, different surfaces can be created whose appearances vary between a faithful reconstruction of the original avatar skeleton and highly amorphous shapes.
